Bradley, who earned a split decision against Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday, would ‘love’ to put his unbeaten record up against Mayweather. But there are many issues that could prevent a fight.

LAS VEGAS — Timothy Bradley‘s conquest of Juan Manuel Marquez inspired the unbeaten world welterweight champion from Palm Springs to chase even greater glory.
“If a Floyd Mayweather fight could materialize, I’d love it,” Bradley (31-0) said late Saturday after beating Marquez by split decision at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Given the business relationships and years of hard feelings that exist, however, that’s a wish that seems unlikely.
Bradley’s promoter, Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum, and Mayweather split on bitter terms last decade and haven’t worked together since. Top Rank’s biggest fights are on HBO, and world junior-middleweight champion Mayweather (45-0) is in a 30-month, multi-fight deal with rival Showtime.
“I know about all of it,” Bradley said Sunday. “I’ll talk to my promoter and my manager and still see if we can make it happen. I want to fight the top dog in boxing. We’ve got to try.”
Barring a Nov. 23 victory by Manny Pacquiao that could resurrect calls for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, Bradley, 30, is clearly the best possible May opponent for Mayweather, whose best Showtime options are unbeaten junior-welterweight champion Danny Garcia and former 140-pound champion Amir Khan.
Attempts to reach Mayweather and his advisors Sunday were unsuccessful.
Bradley said he punched his ticket to the boxing hall of fame in beating Marquez (55-7-1), avoiding the biggest punches of the challenger, who was seeking to win a Mexican-record world title in a fifth weight class.
Marquez said after being frustrated again by Nevada judges following a draw and two narrow losses by decision to Pacquiao that he is leaning toward retirement.
Judge Robert Hoyle scored it 115-113 for Bradley, and Patricia Morse Jarman had it 116-112 for the World Boxing Organization champion. Glenn Feldman of Connecticut scored it 115-113 for Marquez.
“I was quick, elusive, hard to hit and frustrated him,” Bradley said. “I showed I can outsmart him. I’m one of the best fighters in the world now.
“I’m the best possible opponent for Mayweather, but it’s all up to him. Mayweather controls it. He can fight Danny Garcia or Amir Khan if he wants, but I would love a shot at him and think I definitely deserve a shot.
“Mayweather will fight anybody if it makes sense for him. I’ve said I’d like to fight him. I’m not sure what I have to do to fight him beyond that.”
Bradley’s manager, Cameron Dunkin, said Arum and Top Rank President Todd duBoef have told him they’re “very willing to do the” Mayweather fight.
“Floyd Mayweather promotes himself. He can do whatever he wants,” Dunkin said.
“It depends on what the deal is,” Arum said Sunday. “If Mayweather wants to do a negotiation, we’ll do one. We know the legalities and we can work it out. I do what my fighters want.”
To do solid pay-per-view numbers, Arum said, Mayweather wants “a good second side, like he had in” Sept. 14 opponent Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, or last year against Miguel Cotto.
Bradley failed to generate 1 million pay-per-view buys with Pacquiao, but he has boosted his appeal by turning in a possible fighter-of-the-year campaign that included his March brawl against Ruslan Provodnikov.
Bradley, said Arum, “is doing what he needs to do. He fought a very smart fight against a man who was very experienced and a much harder puncher.”
If Mayweather doesn’t happen, the winner of Pacquiao-Brandon Rios makes the most sense for Bradley.
Marquez, meanwhile, not only said he wouldn’t fight in Nevada again, he said he would “retire” after the defeat.
Arum said that if Pacquiao wins next month, the promoter has been approached by businessmen in Mexico who want to bring Pacquiao-Marquez V to Mexico City next year.
“Money is money,” Arum said.
Exiting the arena to the chill of a desert night Saturday, the 40-year-old was asked by a reporter if he really wanted to end his career here.
“It’s a difficult decision,” said Marquez, turning to a reporter, revealing a swollen, bruised face. “What do you think?”
Marquez was told he performed as if he had at least a couple of more fights left in him.
“I don’t think so,” Marquez said, walking away.

WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs) scored a twelve round split decision over 40-year-old four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KOs) on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. In a tactical battle between counter punchers, the younger, quicker Bradley usually able to get off first. Marquez did well in exchanges, which were far fewer than he wanted. Marquez had his best round in round nine as he rattled Bradley. Marquez continued to come on down the stretch, but it was too little, too late. Bradley almost floored Marquez with a left hook in a late flurry in the waning seconds. Scores were 115-113 Marquez, 116-112, 115-113 Bradley.
In a clash for the vacant WBO featherweight title, former champion Orlando Salido (40-12-2, 28 KOs) scored a seventh round KO over Orlando Cruz (20-3-1, 10 KOs) to regain the belt. Salido was in command all the way as he aggressively pressured the fleet-footed Cruz, who made worldwide headlines as the first openly gay pro boxer. Salido finally laid out Cruz in round seven with an overhand right. Time was 1:05.
In his pro debut, two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (1-0, 1 KO) scored an impressive fourth round KO over world rated Jose Ramirez (25-3, 15 KOs). Southpaw Lomachenko had Ramirez on the deck with a body shot in the first minute and was in command until he dropped Ramirez with another body shot for the count in round four. Lomachenko wins the WBO International featherweight title and is aiming to fight for a world championship in his next fight. Time was 2:59.
Unbeaten light heavyweight Sean Monaghan (19-0, 12 KOs) of Long Beach, New York opened up the HBO pay per view with a third round stoppage of Anthony Smith (14-2, 10 KOs) of Kenneth Square, Pennsylvania. In the opening bell Monaghan boxed patiently early on as Smith was the aggressor. Monaghan used the jab keeping Smith away in round two and worked effectively inside every time Smith clinched. In the third round Smith connected with a one-two combination, later in the round Monaghan backed Smith to the ropes with a barrage of punches that got things started as he began to tee off as referee Tony Weeks stepped in to stop the contest at 2:39 of round three.
Unbeaten featherweight Jun Doliguez (17-0-2, 13 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over Giovanni Caro (24-14-4, 19 KOs). Doliguez dropped Caro twice in round six, the second time the bout was waved off by referee Vic Drakulich. Time was 2:53.
Unbeaten welterweight Mikael Zewski (21-0, 16 KOs) scored a TKO Over Alberto Herrera (9-10-1, 5 KOs) when Herrera couldn’t continue after round five. Zewski dominated Herrera through five rounds busting up Herrera’s face in the process.
Unbeaten light heavyweight Trevor McCumby (13-0, 10 KOs) won a wild six round unanimous decision over Eric Watkins (10-5-1, 5 KOs). McCumby scored a flash knockdown in round one, but Watkins came back to drop McCumby in round two. In round three McCumby began to box landing effective punches. McCumby sent Watkins to the canvas again in round four, but Watkins got up and continued to fight. In the closing seconds of round five, McCumby rocked Watkins with a solid left hook as he was saved by the bell. Scores were 59-53, 59-53, 58-53. McCumby who trains in Oxnard and is trained by 2012 Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia, previously won a six round decision over Watkins last year.
Unbeaten welterweight Brad Solomon moved to 21-0, 8 KOs after a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over Kenny Abril (14-7-1, 7 KOs). Soloman was the taller man as he used his distance on Abril in the opening round. Working behind the jab Soloman continued to keep Abril away and began to pick up the pressure in round three. The Louisiana fighter boxed well as he began having his way with Abril working on the inside through six rounds. There was no quitting in Abril as he stood inside in round seven chasing down Soloman. The eighth and final round Abril kept coming at Soloman as he circled the ring. Soloman was the busier fighter outworking Abril as he swept one judges scorecard 80-72 and the two other judges scored the bout 79-73.

Four-division world champion and Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez, still regarded by many boxing experts as one of the best pound for pound boxers in the game, celebrated his 40th birthday today.
The Mexico City-born Marquez is currently training for his attempt to win a world title in a fifth weight division against WBO welterweight world champion Timothy Bradley on October 12 in Las Vegas.

Scoring Controversy
Judge Guy Jutras scored the fight 115-110 for Marquez, while judge John Stewart scored it 115-110 for Pacquiao.
The third judge, Burt Clements, had a 113-113 tie. His scoring included a 10-7 opening round because, he admitted later, he did not realize he could give a 10-6 round. If Clements had scored the opening round 10-6, as the other two judges had, Pacquiao would have won by 113-112 on Clements’s card and earned a split decision.
“I just screwed up,” Clements said. “I feel badly because I dropped the ball, plainly and simply. You can make a lot of arguments that it was a very close fight, but that’s immaterial. The fact is, I dropped the ball.”
Marc Ratner, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, ruled that Clements’s admission was no grounds for a protest.
